John Murphy Long
lived in Mize 1841-1859

The Magee family has been farming in the Smith County for over 160 years. Part of the original farm came from Land Grants signed by Presidents Zachary Taylor and U.S. Grant.

The local area has a rich history since being settled around 1800 by Tom Sullivan's large family. Mize is considered the 'capital' of the notorious Sullivan's Hollow which has generated more than its fair share of colorful characters and stories.

Wild Bill Sullivan was often called the 'King of Sullivans' hollow.

Louisianna Governor Huey P. Long's father was born in Sullivan's Hollow where his grandfather, John Murphy Long, lived for many years.
